About Blue Rest

Blue Rest is an early-stage ecological burial reef initiative founded by Yaron Elyasi, an industrial designer, researcher, and lecturer exploring new alternatives for end-of-life rituals through design, sustainability, and marine ecology.

The project proposes a future sea burial system in which underwater burial structures are designed as modular burial reefs. Instead of consuming land indefinitely, each submerged structure can become part of a living marine habitat, supporting fish, algae, shellfish, corals, and other forms of marine life over time.

Blue Rest explores the connection between memory, ecological burial, regenerative design, and ocean regeneration. It offers a possible future pathway for sustainable burial, alternative burial, and new forms of memorial reef infrastructure.

The project is currently in a research and development phase, inviting early interest from future users, researchers, marine experts, divers, environmental organizations, investors, and strategic partners.

Why It Matters

​

Conventional burial requires land, materials, and long-term maintenance. In dense countries and growing cities, cemetery space is becoming an increasing challenge.

Blue Rest asks whether burial can become more than a place of memory. Through a carefully designed submerged burial reef system, the project explores how end-of-life infrastructure might also contribute to marine biodiversity, ecological transition, and a new relationship between human memory and the sea.
